Thyroid disorders, including hyperthyroidism and Graves’ Disease, affect millions of people worldwide each year. For those who are suspected of hyperthyroidism, symptoms may include rapid heartbeat, weight loss, muscle weakness, disturbed sleep and irritability, all of which can be non-specific and difficult to diagnose in the early stages. Moreover, it is not uncommon for patients to go undiagnosed and untreated for long periods of time due to a lack of awareness by patients and clinicians alike.
Some patients with Graves’ disease also have thyroid eye disease (formerly called Graves’ orbitopathy or Graves’ ophthalmopathy) with inflammatory infiltration of the orbit that can cause bulging eyes (exophthalmos), dry and red eyes, as well as light sensitivity and other symptoms. Other inflammatory changes in the eyes can lead to visual disturbances, including blurry vision.
QuidelOrtho has partnered with MEDtalks and Dane Garvin Ltd. to help you better understand thyroid conditions including clinical risk factors, diagnostic methods and comparisons, manifestations and impacts on specific patient groups, treatment options, and much more.
