| Background |
C3a is generated as the result of cleavage of complement protein C3 by soluble C3-convertase during activation of the complement system via the classical, lectin or alternative pathway. The anaphylatoxin C3a in serum is then rapidly cleaved into the more stable C3a-desArg. The detection of C3a-desArg therefore provides a reliable evaluation of the level of complement activation. |
